When I look back through the years, my favorite cool weather styles for my boys had a similar trend. Almost every day, I still set out the same “type” of outfit. So when I went to work on a capsule wardrobe for toddler boy and older boys, I realized that above all, I should share this go-to formula. And let me tell you, it’s really darn simple.
1) Select jogger-style pant.
It doesn’t matter if it is denim, French Terry or cotton. Pick your favorite (or grab a variety). Here are some of the ones my boys are wearing now:
2) Add long sleeve shirt.
I know – this is really ingenious (NOT)!! But sometimes, we work too hard and the answer is really so easy. Here are some of our favorite long sleeve tees. Truly, now that I have three boys, I should have just bought stock in black and white long sleeve tees – the boys wear them constantly.
3) Add one additional top layer.
Here we get a bit more creative. Don’t stop with the pants and tee – add one more layer. Whether it is a cool jacket, a puffer vest, a patterned overshirt, adding that third piece is where you can get more variety and character. Again, here are some we have this season:
4) Accessorize.
Depending on how cool the weather is and what the activities are for the day will determine what else gets added. Typically, I’m reaching for a pair of boots and a beanie if it is chilly.
There you have it. The easiest formula for boy’s cool weather style. You can get as creative as you want with this (add a sweater, cardigan, denim jacket layer, colored joggers, etc). However, if you’re looking for simple daily styles, this is absolutely perfect.
