The season of LOVE is upon us and lots of photographers will offer Valentine’s Day photoshoots. The focus is to capture the bond between couples, siblings, parents and their children or even friends. Here are a few things that I like to consider when styling for Valentine’s Day photos!!
1) Color Scheme for Attire
- Outfit colors heavily impact your photoshoot results. Selecting outfits and styles that are comfortable for your kids but also complement your theme is important to get the results you want. Most people reach for hues of pink, red and white although there are always other options with the additional of neutrals and complimentary colors.
2) Theme
- There is a wide variety of options for styling your Valentine’s Day photos. You can simply stick with your casual, daily styles. But don’t worry! Just because it is simple, does not mean it has to be boring. Carefully using what you already have in your closet can often times work well for cute and casual mini sessions. It is also common to select semi dressy options such as dresses for your girls and button up shirts for your boys. And always, you could reach for a suit and maxi dress if desiring a formal style session. There’s no rule!
3) Accessorizing/props
- There are a couple props you could consider using to take your session to the next level. Purchasing balloons is a really fun addition and kids love them! You could opt for heart-shaped balloons, balloons in different shades of red and pink, or even a “LOVE” ballon in a gold color. Another option would be the use of flower. Whether using faux flower petals from Amazon or stopping at your local floral shop for roses (dethorned, of course), this is a fun and simple and may give your nervous toddler something to use during the session. Last but not least, consider saving a special snack for the end of the session. Whether that be doughnuts, cupcakes or a heart shaped candy, snacks are an easy way to keep kids focused and motivated and make for some sweet pictures.
Now that we have covered all of that, let’s look at some ideas for 2024!
